The Lerala Diamond Mine located in Botswana has recently been re-commissioned by Kimberley Diamonds Ltd, an Australian listed company. The mine consists of a cluster of five kimberlite pipes with a 200 ton per hour up-graded and refurbished treatment plant and an entirely new recovery and sorting facility.
The project to refurbish and recommission Lerala commenced in 2015 and open pit mining commenced in April 2016. The first kimberlite was fed into the treatment plant at the end of April and the inaugural sale of diamonds recovered from Lerala took place in Antwerp at the end of June 2016.
PPM was appointed by Kimberley Diamonds to complete an Operational Review in February 2016. Following on from this successful assignment, PPM was then appointed to complete a Maintenance and Reliability Review and is continuing to provide consulting services to support the maintenance and reliability efforts, thus ensuring reliable and sustainable treatment plant operations.
Stellar Diamonds is an AIM listed diamond mining company with projects in Guinea and Sierra Leone.
PPM has undertaken a number of projects for this company and has recently completed a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for their Tongo project which was successful in deriving a strong economic case for the mining of the Tongo kimberlites. Instrumental in this was the unique open bench mining method developed by PPM to gain early access to the kimberlite fissures from surface whilst completing the essential underground access. This innovative new mining method dramatically improved the early cash flows for the project, thereby enhancing the projects financial profitability.
The PEA has proved beneficial to Stellar Diamonds in advancing this project into production in the near future.
This innovative approach to new projects cements PPM’s vision of “Shifting Paradigms and Creating Opportunities”
Northern Fissures is a private diamond mining company currently evaluating the Motete kimberlites in Lesotho.
In February 2016, PPM completed a detailed bulk sampling plant audit for the company. This indicated that whilst the plant flowsheet was certainly adequate for the evaluation programme, certain improvements could be made. In line with these findings, PPM installed its unique DMS plant at the project which improved the diamond recovery efficiency significantly.
